Prior to 2010, we celebrated Peace Month in May. Historically, Mothers Day is connected to the work of peacemaking.
In 2010, NW Yearly Meeting announced its plan to devote the month of January to the topic of peace. We switched our observance of Peace Month to January, so we could participate with the broader observance.
During Peace Month, the Peace Committee plays an especially active role in our meetings for worship. Often, they invite someone working for peace to bring the message. People from the Peace Committee bring First Word, reflecting on their own commitments and insights. Even worship music can reflect the theme of peace.
